Hundreds of demonstrations took place across France on Saturday over the rising cost of living, with large numbers of security forces deployed to prevent a repeat of last weekend’s violence. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said marches in several cities passed peacefully, but members of “ultra-left” groups threw projectiles and fireworks at police in an effort to provoke clashes.
