Palestinian local authorities said Israeli troops levelled a Hebron neighbourhood as collective punishment for a militant attack on an army checkpoint outside the West Bank city. The municipality estimated that 35 hectares had been destroyed or marked for demolition and about 1,500 people evicted. Checkpoints sealed every entrance to the city.
