Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Thursday that China's Arctic activities seek to promote regional peace, stability and sustainable development and comply with international law. Responding to concerns raised in the EU's new Arctic strategy about China's expanding presence and cooperation with Russia, she said countries' lawful rights and freedoms in the region should be respected and warned against bloc-building and geopolitical confrontation.
