ScienceIUCN warns 96% of the world’s coral reefs face critical risk of collapse
The International Union for Conservation of Nature says 96% of the world’s shallow-water coral reef systems are critically endangered, with nearly all at risk of collapse by 2075 if climate change continues. Climate-driven heat stress is the most consistent threat, while overfishing, coastal development, pollution, tourism and storms also degrade reefs.
