A man in France is the first known person to have contracted Shamonda virus. Investigations are examining whether it contributed to his death and how he was infected. The ECDC said he was already seriously ill and immunocompromised; there is no evidence of sustained human-to-human transmission, and experts say the risk to the public appears very low.
