SocietyTwo Sydney beaches closed after whale carcass washes ashore
Coogee and Maroubra beaches in Sydney’s eastern suburbs were closed as a precaution after a whale carcass became lodged on rocks between them. Randwick council is coordinating its removal with rangers and the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries, seeking an approach respectful of Indigenous culture. The whale’s species and how it reached the bay remain under investigation.
