SocietyMeduza survey finds most readers still in Russia want to emigrate, but many doubt they can leave within a year
In July 2026, independent sociologists led by Anna Kuleshova surveyed more than 4,000 Meduza readers. Most respondents still living in Russia said they wanted to emigrate; among those hoping to leave, about half rated their chances of doing so within a year at 2 out of 10 or lower. Respondents generally expressed positive feelings toward people who left, though many said Russian society views emigrants with suspicion or disapproval. The sample represents Meduza’s readership, not Russia’s population or all emigrants.
