The United States has not introduced a new medium-lift rocket since Antares debuted 13 years ago. Its early 100-series version was troubled, using Soviet-era engines later refurbished by Aerojet, and the rocket exploded on its fifth launch in 2014. A new generation of medium-lift vehicles is now coming online and differs sharply from Antares.
