TechTikTok employees say they flagged child-safety risks, but executives failed to act

Court records obtained by NPR show TikTok staff repeatedly raised concerns about child safety, including minors accessing age-restricted material and appearing in sexual content tied to payments that could benefit the company. Depositions filed in March are part of multidistrict litigation begun in 2022 involving hundreds of lawsuits against TikTok and other platforms. Former staffers also described concerns about sexual exploitation on TikTok Live and algorithmic content linked to suicidal thoughts and behavior, saying the company failed to address risks or warn parents.
