ScienceEarth’s first oceans may have formed within 10,000 years, Chinese study finds

A University of Science and Technology of China team estimates that Earth’s earliest oceans formed within 10,000 years after the global magma ocean solidified. In baseline conditions, the surface reached water’s critical temperature in about 1,800 years, with oceans forming roughly 2,500 years later. The model may also aid studies of Mars, Venus and other terrestrial planets.
