Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the FSB has increasingly posted videos of political detainees. Memorial examined 70 cases and says the footage is often staged to intimidate opponents and showcase the security service. It estimates roughly a quarter of arrest scenes were staged, while confessions may be filmed under torture or deception.
