Russia’s sanitary watchdog Rospotrebnadzor says more than 14,000 mpox cases have been confirmed worldwide since the start of 2026, most in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Sierra Leone. Symptoms can include a rash or mucosal lesions lasting two to four weeks, along with fever, headache, muscle and back pain, low energy and swollen lymph nodes.
