CultureReview: Lanterns is a strikingly original take on superheroes

The review praises HBO’s DC series “Lanterns” for trading familiar superhero antics for gritty realism. Its story follows Hal Jordan and trainee John Stewart investigating a mass shooting at a Rushville, Nebraska, football game; the finale is described as emotionally charged and nearly elegiac, fulfilling the show’s promise.
