PoliticsSupport for Takaichi cabinet falls below 50% for first time, Kyodo poll says
A Kyodo phone poll found that support for the Japanese government led by Sanae Takaichi fell to 49.1%, below half for the first time since it took power in October 2025. Some 33% opposed the cabinet and 17.9% declined to answer. Nearly 58% said Takaichi was late in dismissing agriculture minister Kazuo Yana, and 54.7% said the scandal could affect the government’s political future. More than 65% worried a proposed food tax cut would harm public finances and other social spending.
