CultureChurch advances sainthood case for ‘WWI hero’ priest
Ireland’s Catholic Church will hold a service at Mullingar Cathedral on Sunday before sending thousands of documents to the Vatican in support of Fr Willie Doyle’s proposed canonisation. Doyle, a chaplain with the British Army’s 16th (Irish) Division, was killed by shellfire while helping wounded soldiers at Passchendaele in 1917. The campaign remains at an early stage.
