WorldBrazil’s Amazon deforestation falls to lowest level on record

Official figures show 3,335 square kilometres of Brazilian Amazon forest were cleared in the year through July, down 42 percent from the previous year and the lowest since records began in 1988. The result gives President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva a boost ahead of the presidential run-off.
