TechPolymarket saw $600 million in election trades after the elections were over

Prediction-market supporters often tout the platforms as gauges of public opinion, but two global election markets on Polymarket generated more than $600 million in trading after the elections, mostly involving candidates who lost. In Ethiopia, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Prosperity Party won 438 seats. Just $173,000 was wagered on Ahmed, versus more than $41 million traded on chief of staff Shimelis Abdisa becoming the next leader.
