PoliticsRussia moves to fill emergency ministry firefighting vacancies with conscripts
Russia’s State Duma passed a bill in its first reading that would let conscripts serve in military units of the Emergencies Ministry’s Federal Fire Service, addressing a staffing shortage attributed to low wages. The units could fight fires and carry out rescues in towns and civilian facilities, but conscripts could not be sent to the “special military operation” zone or areas under special counterterrorism measures. The report says war-related Defense Ministry contracts offer higher pay.
