SocietyLGBTQ+ people go into hiding in Senegal as hundreds are arrested

Human Rights Watch reports that more than 320 people have been detained in Senegal since February on allegations of “acts against nature”; at least 84 were charged with “voluntary HIV transmission” solely because of their HIV status. The report describes mass arrests, forced testing and obstacles to legal representation, prompting many LGBTQ+ people to hide, restrict their movements or leave the country.
