TechEight states sue OpenAI, alleging ChatGPT is unsafe for children

Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, West Virginia, Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho, and Montana filed separate lawsuits accusing OpenAI of putting profits ahead of safety in developing ChatGPT, failing to warn users, and misleading the public about the chatbot’s safety. The states also allege it collected minors’ data and did not do enough to keep children from using the service. They seek civil penalties and an order barring misleading claims; some also seek deletion of unlawfully collected personal data. OpenAI says it has age-specific protections and will continue building safeguards.
