China’s CCDI said 74-year-old Huang Qifan is suspected of “serious violations of discipline and law” and is under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation. He served as Chongqing mayor and was a close partner of Bo Xilai, yet remained unaffected by the subsequent falls of Bo and Sun Zhengcai. Retired for nine years, Huang continued to comment prominently on economic policy as a scholar. The investigation was announced ahead of the Chinese Communist Party’s fifth plenum.
