SocietySchools shuttered as student protests sweep through France

A high school protest movement that erupted in France last week is continuing, with demonstrations reported at more than 1,200 schools and over 5,000 arrests, most involving minors. Students are angry about what they describe as chronic underfunding of state schools and the unequal distribution of public resources, which they say has historically favored richer, whiter postcodes.
