PoliticsWhy did Serbia’s president resign to run for prime minister?

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic resigned seven months before his term was due to end but is staying in politics. He is campaigning for Serbia’s October 25 parliamentary election and seeking to become prime minister again. The vote follows nearly two years of student-led protests sparked by the deadly collapse of a railway-station canopy in Novi Sad in November 2024. The student movement has now entered electoral politics and is challenging Vucic’s side.
