On Aug. 26, Meta agreed to pay up to roughly $17 billion to resolve claims from several U.S. states. The states alleged that its platforms fostered addiction among teenagers and misled the public. Victoria Hinks, whose daughter died by suicide at 16, welcomed the settlement and said lawsuits against these companies would continue to emerge.
