PoliticsTurkiye approves pardon-like bill for thousands of PKK fighters

Turkiye’s parliament has passed legislation resembling a conditional pardon for thousands of members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party. The measure allows prosecutions or prison terms for some PKK-linked detainees to be suspended for five to 10 years. About 3,500 people are initially expected to be released. People convicted of killings or other serious offences are excluded, as is the group’s imprisoned founder, Abdullah Ocalan. The legislation represents a major step toward ending the four-decade conflict.
