PoliticsThailand pursues ‘recalibrated re-engagement’ with Myanmar during Min Aung Hlaing’s visit

Thailand has indicated that engagement with Myanmar remains its preferred course, despite the Myanmar government led by Min Aung Hlaing being at odds with much of ASEAN. Bangkok welcomed the leader for his first official visit as a civilian leader. It also stressed that any normalisation would need to remain consistent with the regional bloc’s objectives. In a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Min Aung Hlaing sought to reassure Thailand that his government was working to restore stability.
