WorldThai PM calls for ‘calibrated re-engagement’ with Myanmar before leader’s visit

Thailand is advocating what it calls a “calibrated re-engagement” with Myanmar ahead of its leader’s visit. The approach differs from ASEAN’s broader decision to keep the leadership that emerged after the 2021 military coup at arm’s length. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul says dialogue channels with Myanmar should remain open while ASEAN presses for movement toward peace under its Five-Point Consensus. He says there are indications the approach is producing results. Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing is expected to visit Thailand.
