SocietyWainwright base tragedy: CAF knew of nearby grass fire but did not consider it a threat

A fire and explosion at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright killed four military personnel and injured dozens. The four were serving with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry, at CFB Edmonton and were taking part in a live-fire exercise with grenades and ammunition. The cause remains unclear; the CAF knew of a nearby grass fire but did not consider it a threat.
