Nobel Peace Prize laureate Navi Pillay, a former UN human rights chief and ICC judge, denounced new US sanctions against the court as unacceptable and unlawful. She said she was surprised by the award and welcomed its recognition of international justice, human rights and the rule of law, while accusing Washington of undermining judicial independence and punishing the ICC for carrying out its work.
