WorldFrench mayor teargassed after shielding student protesters from police

Saint-Denis mayor Bally Bagayoko was evacuated from a Paris protest on Tuesday after police teargassed him as he marched with high-school students facing a police cordon. He told the Guardian that trouble caused by a small minority did not justify what he called the authorities’ disproportionate use of force. Students across France are protesting a lack of funding and resources.
