A 28-year-old woman who worked in a laboratory at a plague research centre in Siberia, Russia, died on 2 October. Authorities have identified the cause as “pneumonia of unknown origin”, while about 200 contacts have been isolated. The US has urged Russia to provide more information, and the WHO says the public-health risk currently appears very low.
