# Saudi Arabia wary of testing Mecca pact as Yemen war returns, analyst says

> Sultan Barakat, a public policy professor at Qatar Foundation’s Hamad Bin Khalifa University, told Al Jazeera that Yemen has largely returned to civil war as fighting intensified over the past week after years of stalemate. With the Saudi-backed, internationally recognised government gaining ground against the Houthis, he said a pause in the fighting was hard to envisage. Saudi Arabia, however, has adopted a more aggressive posture.
