SocietyFrench police fire tear gas as students and parents protest school funding

French police used tear gas after protesters rallied nationwide over school funding. Officials put attendance above 250,000, while student unions claimed more than 450,000. The protests followed over two weeks of high-school blockades that began near Paris, with some universities joining. Students want more teachers, improved facilities and infrastructure, and lighter timetables. The day was mostly calm before tensions rose at the end.
