International human rights lawyer and former New York assistant attorney general Reed Brody says the botched execution of Christa Pike points to a much broader failure. The lethal-injection malfunction, he argues, exposes weaknesses across the legal system surrounding capital punishment, including institutional failure, due process, defense representation and human dignity.
