WorldUS Marine arrested over alleged murder of woman, reigniting protests in Okinawa

A 20-year-old US Marine has been arrested by Japanese police in Okinawa on suspicion of killing a 39-year-old woman. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi described the incident as “brutal and outrageous” and called on the US to strengthen discipline among its forces in Japan. The case has renewed attention on jurisdiction under the US-Japan Status of Forces Agreement and opposition to the US military presence in Okinawa.
