Tennessee recently attempted to execute convicted murderer Christa Pike, who had spent three decades on death row. After two lethal doses of pentobarbital were injected, Pike was still alive and was taken to hospital. The incident was not the first failed execution in the US, as lethal-injection drugs have become increasingly difficult for prison officials to obtain.
