PoliticsSpain's prime minister calls snap election after housing protests

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has called a snap election after parliament rejected his package of measures to address the housing crisis. The proposals followed nationwide protests sparked by the eviction of an 87-year-old woman who could not afford a steep rent increase. A general election had not been due until summer 2027.
