> Brazil’s presidential election is heading to a runoff after far-right candidate Flávio Bolsonaro defeated incumbent leftwing president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva but failed to win the outright majority needed to avoid a 25 October second round. Lula called the result “unexpected” and said voters would see more clearly Bolsonaro’s “dark past” before the vote.
