SocietyFrench school protests escalate as hundreds detained and dozens wounded

French security forces detained more than 600 people on Wednesday and dozens of police and gendarmes were wounded as protests intensified, the interior minister said. Students have protested outside schools since last week over timetables, class sizes, teacher shortages and overheated classrooms during this year's heatwaves. Blockades and violent clashes have followed.
