SocietyTennessee death row inmate Christa Pike survives execution attempt

Christa Pike, convicted of murdering a schoolmate about three decades ago, survived Tennessee’s attempt to execute her by lethal injection late Wednesday, prison officials said. The failed procedure would have been the state’s first execution of a woman in two centuries. Pike was taken for medical treatment, and her condition was not immediately known.
