Xi Jinping arrived in the United States on the evening of September 23, US Eastern Time, for a state visit. Donald Trump personally met him at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington, a rare diplomatic gesture described as the first such welcome by a US president to a foreign leader in more than 60 years, apart from the pope’s visit.
