World‘Say our name. Naoero’: President affirms country’s name change at UNGA

The president of the eight-square-mile island nation, home to about 12,000 people, affirmed at the UN General Assembly that its name has changed to Naoero. The country announced the renaming in August after signaling its intention in February. It became independent in 1968 following long colonial rule by the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia and Germany.
