Hundreds of thousands of people work in fraud centres across Southeast Asia, targeting victims worldwide. US authorities estimate scams against Americans alone may be worth nearly $10 billion annually, with victims also reported in Europe, the UK and China. Human rights groups warn that many workers are themselves trafficked and forced into slavery.
