Lagos authorities are warning that toxins in mouldy tomatoes pose serious health risks, while more Nigerians say they have little choice but to buy spoiled produce. More than 36 million people face severe food shortages or cannot afford the food they need, as maize, millet and sorghum become more expensive amid a worsening food crisis.
