A day after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed making Canada the EU’s first “associate member,” Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed the idea in Strasbourg, France. He said polling showed an overwhelming majority of Canadians supported much closer ties with Europe.
