PoliticsEU chief von der Leyen proposes ‘associate member’ status for Canada

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says she wants to open the door for Canada to become the EU’s first associate member, bringing Ottawa closer to the bloc on trade, defence and technology as ties with the US face strain. The proposal has already encountered a possible obstacle.
