PoliticsOttawa will not recognize ‘southern Inuit’ as holding Indigenous rights

A yearslong dispute over Indigenous identity has intensified in Newfoundland and Labrador. The federal government has severed ties with the NunatuKavut Community Council, which represents about 6,000 people in central and southern Labrador and has long sought land, hunting and fishing rights despite lacking recognition from other Indigenous organizations and communities.
