Carlton Shelley II recalls that then-President George W. Bush visited his fifth-grade class at Emma E. Booker Elementary School on Sept. 11, 2001. Shelley later served as class president, football captain, a U.S. Military Academy cadet and a member of the 9th Cavalry Regiment. He said he hopes future generations hold on to hope and service.
