The Edmonton Oilers sparked controversy Wednesday by signing Alex Formenton to a one-year contract. Formenton was one of five players from Canada’s 2018 world junior team charged with sexual assault over an encounter with a woman after a Hockey Canada gala in London, Ont.; he was acquitted last year. Former Athletic writer Daniel Nugent-Bowman says his actions were not “a mistake.”
