SocietyAlberta First Nation invokes treaty clause to create gender-affirming care safe haven

Saddle Lake First Nation has invoked a 150-year-old treaty clause to create a “safe haven” for gender-affirming care on its reserve. It says the move will let medical staff provide protected, uninterrupted care to transgender and Two-Spirit youth, following Alberta legislation barring doctors from prescribing puberty blockers or hormone therapy to children under 16.
